VER Licenses North Carolina Distributor Union Grove
to Manufacture HorseSense productsss

Marshall, Va. (July 5, 2008) – Virginia Equine Research (VER) has licensed Union Grove Feed of Union Grove, North Carolina to manufacture it’s state of the art lines of horse nutrition, Horse Sense and Px Ultra Performance Feeds. The Virginia Equine Research product systems have been formulated to eliminate the need for supplementation. Horse Sense is a feed system which balances optimal nutrition, based on an individual horse’s size, work, and forage type. Px Ultra Performance Feeds are targeted to our high-performance equine athletes with greater calorie requirements.

Union Grove Feed LLC—owned by Bob Carson (Managing Partner), Ben Shelton, DVM and Bud Eanes (Sales Partner), a long-time manufacturer (and distributor) of horse feeds throughout the Carolinas and south west Virginia, contacted VER subsequent to their purchase of a Schnupps flame roaster. (www.roast-a-matic.com.) “I’ve been in the feed business for over 25 years—and Ben Shelton’s been in it for over 40 years. We did extensive research before signing-on with Virginia Equine Research and, in spite of all the hype and popularity of other formulations, we both agreed that there isn’t a feed on the market that can hold a candle to VER’s formulations.” said Bob.

Live-fire roasting is a far superior process for the decontamination of feed grains—the primary tenant of VER’s feed safety program. The process of roasting with an open flame gives sterilization to the grain, reducing toxicity and breaking down the cell structure within the grain, making the nutrients more readily available to the animal.

About Virginia Equine Research

Established in 2005, Virginia Equine Research is the umbrella that overarches all the diverse areas required in the development of products, technologies and nutrition systems designed to address the unique physiology of horses, which will bring them to a level of health and soundness that has never been achieved before. These areas include: the gathering and interpretation of university studies and published research in the areas of animal health and nutrition (especially those relevant to equines); the development of simple and functional equine nutrition systems and products; the research into available technologies for the production of these products; and the design and integration of production systems for their manufacture at Morgan Mills and at future licensed independent mills.

About Morgan Mills

Nestled in the beautiful Springs Valley just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounded by lush horse pastures, sits a feed mill dedicated to the health and welfare of all horses through feed safety. There, all grains are decontaminated through a patented, live-fire flash roasting process which kills common feed contaminants—such as mold, fungi, botulism, salmonella, leptospirosis (from rat feces), e. coli and EPM-producing protozoa—and melts mycotoxins. Morgan Mills was designed and constructed by Karl Donaghy to ensure quality control and manufacturing precision required by such state of the art nutrition system as Horse Sense.
