Live-fire roasting is a far
superior process for the decontamination of feed grains—the primary
tenant of VER’s feed safety program. The process of roasting with an
open flame gives sterilization to the grain, reducing toxicity and
breaking down the cell structure within the grain, making the nutrients
more readily available to the animal.

Established in
2005, Virginia Equine Research is the umbrella that overarches all the
diverse areas required in the development of products, technologies and
nutrition systems designed to address the unique physiology of horses,
which will bring them to a level of health and soundness that has never

interpretation of university studies and published research in the areas
of animal health and nutrition (especially those relevant to equines);

About Morgan Mills
Nestled in the
beautiful Springs Valley just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and
surrounded by lush horse pastures, sits a feed mill dedicated to the
health and welfare of all horses through feed safety. There, all grains
are decontaminated through a patented, live-fire flash roasting process
which kills common feed contaminants—such as mold, fungi, botulism,
salmonella, leptospirosis (from rat feces), e. coli and EPM-producing
protozoa—and melts mycotoxins. Morgan Mills was designed and constructed
by Karl Donaghy to ensure quality control and manufacturing precision
required by such state of the art nutrition system as Horse Sense.
